ARTIST STATEMENT

Heavenly Bodies reveals a disturbing juxtaposition between the façade of purity and the abuse of innocence surrounding the widespread child abuse by the Catholic Church’s clergy that has led to billion-dollar cover-ups.

ARTIST BIO

Amy Bassin is an artist from New York City whose work encompasses collage, decollage, artist books, altered books, drawing, photography, and video to raise awareness about social injustices against women, children, and free press. Exhibition credits include, Suffrage and Struggle at Salve Regina University, The 1st Feminnale of Contemporary Art at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Kyrgyzstan, the annual Art Book Fair in Antwerp, Belgium, the NYC Poetry Festival on Governor’s Island, NY, Bronx Art Space, NY, and Ray Gallery, NY. Her videos will represent the United States in the 2020 year-long world tour ofTime Is Love and toured internationally as part of the Seattle based Exquisite Corpse film, The Space Between Cities.

She is a recent residency recipient at Vermont Studio Center and co-founder of the international artists' collective, Urban Dialogues, which participated in a residency and exhibitions, in Lisbon, Portugal, Slovakia, and Belgium.
