ARTIST STATEMENT

Making art is what makes me feel most connected with myself and grounded in the world. This comes from a deep need to engage with and process my experiences, giving them a space to live outside of myself so I can then let them go. The inspiration for my art comes from both the chaos of life and the peaceful beauty of the natural world.

A big part of my process is finding. Whether it be an image from a vintage magazine or wildflowers from the forest, I collect things that inspire me. I then slowly and intuitively combine, edit, and layer, all the while asking questions of myself and the work. Sometimes I feel these questions are eventually resolved and sometimes they seemingly stay hanging in the air in the final piece. Themes that have emerged in my work include femininity, motherhood, loss, hope, chronic illness, immigration, and memories.

ARTIST BIO

I am a visual artist working primarily in analog collage and cyanotype printmaking but also have experience in drawing, painting, and fiber arts and frequently experiment incorporating these into my work. Cyanotype offers a lack of control that I thrive on and collage allows me to express dichotomies and juxtapositions in a way that truly resonates with me. I have been making art for as long as I can remember and have always had an affinity for making and creating.
I currently live in Kentucky with my husband and two young girls, and have lived in the Louisville area most of my life. My art has been featured at The Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Ky, on Magnolia Network’s television series “In with the Old”, in Louisville-local venues including Sunergos Coffee and Sojourn Arts Gallery, and can be found in several private collections as well. I also have experience as interior designer for Twinflower Cabin, a small retreat cabin in the forested hills of eastern Kentucky, along the Bourbon Trail.

My studio space is in a sunny, upstairs bedroom in my home in Crestwood, Ky and you can either find me creating there or outside amidst nature. While I'm making art, I’m usually listening to Tycho, Kina Grannis, or a playlist of similar indie-folk music. I am most definitely introverted, and I love people, my dog Fern, travel, great food and strong coffee. One of my biggest inspirations and my favorite place to be is surrounded by the trees, flowers and moss of the forest. There I am reminded of the truths that our reality extends beyond what we can see and that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves.
