ARTIST STATEMENT
Collage making is a challenging way for me to re-arrange collected random and non-hierarchical image material into new fantasies that want to communicate.
I see my images/collages are multi-layered and theatrical 'Stills' referring to stories unknown and untold. The individual empathic viewer is invited to feel free to project his or her imagination into a personal story based on the collages.
In a way I feel indebted and connected to Raymond Quenau's book 'Excercises de styles' in which he tells a simple story in 99 different ways.
ARTIST BIO
Raoul van der Weide is a professional free improvising musician (doublebass, cello, crackle box) since 1978.
Mid 80's he started parallel making visual art including works on paper and collages. Collages include also
CD covers for his own label Casco Records and as CD cover's for other musicians/ensembles.
