I am Rebecca Clouatre, a mixed media artist based in Ottawa, Canada. I was born and raised in North Bay, ON. Through my work, I hope to build connections between people and encourage viewers to contemplate the intricacies of nature and our complex relationships with the environment. More recently I am exploring themes concerning motherhood and contemporary feminism. With the intention of bringing attention to our planet and forgotten material, much of the imagery I use in collage work is sourced from a variety of paper-based paraphernalia that have been scavenged and repurposed. I love water, books, space and witches.
In 2015 I received a Masters degree in Art History with a concentration in Curatorial Studies from Carleton University. After a brief career in historical research and curatorial work, I am now a full-time artist and mother. In 2020, CBC Arts released a Paper Cuts documentary film about my artistic process. WKP Kennedy Gallery in North Bay hosted Maternal Collections, my first major solo exhibition in Spring 2023. I am a proud member of Ottawa-based 44.4 Artist/Mother Collective. My work has been exhibited in Canada, the U.S.A. and Australia.
